Makeup look - Inspired by Antonio Marras ss 2016

Of all the videos I like to watch on youtube, I like to watch backstage videos and makeup looks from the runways, thank you to Fashion TV.  So back in spring which was ages ago I was really awed by this makeup look from Antonia Marras SS2016. I guess this look was quite popular that I found another video by Adversus interview the MUA

This look was design by one of my favourite MUA, Tom Pecheux with MAC.
So I thought I share this inspired look which I adjusted into my style. He says you can take everything from the look and he's quite right. That is what I love Pecheux, he's adventurous but still chic.

The look is not exactly too out of the world. You still can sort of take one feature either eye or the lip, dots without dots.

 

 Okay.. I tried... lol. But you what I learnt, I learn to like pink and red on my eyes... usually I tend to  avoid, but thanks to this, I'm open to pink. *Hello Anastasia Modern Renaissance Pallete!*







































Face:
Foundation as usual and  contour minimally. No blush.

Eyes:
Eyebrow is my usual and maybe a bit more minimal.
Eyes following true to the look following facechart would be just blush very soft warm pink
blend up to crease with  with silver pigment in the centre. Then 3 black dots on the bottom under the pupil/ iris.






































I used MAC Paint Pot is Soft Ochre and contour slightly with MAC cork. Swipe softly a warm pink blusher from Elianto.

I then add Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Pallete Vintage Vamp, using the enhance shade for extra contour in plummy shade.
I used NARS Dual-Intensityin Dione, a pewter which is more wearable than just silver.


If you want to make it last or make pink more stand out, do pink base - with cream blusher or warm pink lipstick like MAC Verve+Twig.








































He says the dots is for surrealism and I don't know how to translate that but its very unlikely I wear 3 dots like the original. So I subtitute with blended black accent on lower lashline at the outer corner. I add minimal mascara n softly blended brown line on the upper lasline again on outer corner to follow my natural eye shadow/contour.







































We can carry on without the black  if it enough to define eyes with mascara +/- brown liner.


Usually I'll skip black eyeliner if I got striking shadows with striking lips but since I am inspired by Pecheux I still want that black under the eye. If I am bold enough I might just do the dots because overall it is still a well balanced look. However to be honest it is very unlikely... well who knows .

Lips:
Just a deepened plum colour lip and matte out with
dark matte bronzer. I use mac nightmoth
(similar to actual one used) but more matte/
dryer. He used MAC Velvetease in Velvet Teen which has more slip. Then achieve that 'rusty' effect with bronzer.

I add lipstick for more slip for the bronzer and to make it last longer with more packed
colour. I used MAC Hung Up and edges set with MAC  Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Deep Dark.

That completes the look.

Looks: Inspired by Dolce Gabbana Spring Summer 2013

I like Dolce Gabbana collection for Spring Summer 2013, it's quite bohemian, classy and colourful, at the same time very earthy. Since there's lot of colours, I can see how Pat McGrath opt for neutral palette for the makeup. I think most Dolce Gabbana makeup base on neutral colour with some alluring cat eyes. Pat McGrath describe the look as "Sicily-an holiday - sunny beautiful Sicilian faces"

So it's been a while since I post a look on myself, to be honest there's nothing much 'too' interesting in this look, but I was just playing around with makeup after a long while I have restrained myself because of exams week, so I thought I should just post this up.

The makeup used for this look

This is what I come up with:-

A little disclaimer here: Please excuse the quite over the top photoshopping, I basically  just 'glowing' lol... but I didn't expect that today is not sunny enough and my trashy BB camera couldn't pick up enough light. But hopefully it still give an idea of the look.

I list down exactly what I used and plus if there's any different from Pat's actual Dolce Gabbana look. As far as I know, she used Dolce Gabbana Makeup. You can get more information here.

Face makeup:

Vichy Dermablend Fluid Corrective Foundation 16 hr in 45 Gold
Clinique Superbalanced Makeup in Wheat
I mix the Vichy with a bit of the Clinique as it is a tad bit too light for me.
The Bodyshop Concealer Crayon in 05 to conceal any blemishes, under eyes and redness
MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium Dark and MAC Blot Powder in Medium Dark as well to set the base.
Since Clinique Superbalanced Makeup in Wheat is quite dark I used as base contour on hollow of my cheeks, side of nose, side of forehead.
I set the contour with MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Deep Dark and further contour on my jaw and kind 'connect' side of the nose to the brow and follow through the socket.
For blush I used MAC Bronzing Powder in Bronze on the cheeks and I highlight the top of the cheekbones and my nose bridge with MAC Mineralize Skin in Soft & Gentle.
In Pat McGrath's version, she put more blush than I did, and she didn't mention any highlighter, but most important and obvious she also put bronzer on the the browbone as well. 

Eyes:

MAC Paint Pot in Painterly on top lid only, and a wash of the Revlon Matte in Vintage lace over it.

On the socket, a bit of MAC Eyeshadow in Cork.

MAC Fluidline in Blitz and Glitz (the only gel liner I have), to make a quite thin, a bit elongated and flicked slightly upward. 

No 7 Metallic Eye Pencil in Bronze in the waterline. 

MAC Zoom lashes mascara on top lashes.

Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in Black Brown and set with The Bodyshop Brow Gel.

In Pat's version, she had a white wash on the top lid and this was more obvious than me. And I just realized she used a black inside the eye, when I thought it was something metallic brown *silly me*, although I really like the effect. 

(My undereye is a bit dark because I messed up a bit and I removed it including the concealer, and I didn't bother to put back some concealer, hehe.)

Lips:

MAC Lipliner in Spice all over the lips to get that almost peachy nude lips.

Top with mix of Revlon Colorburst in Sienna with Rimmel Apocalips in Nude Eclipse.

Makeover - past runway inspired Twinkle Fall 2009

So I thought of this look from this video that feature Gregory Arlt from MAC for Twinkle Fall 2009.

Despite that it's from 2009, it still relevant and this look good for all year round. 

It's inspired by the 50's although much more softer as Arlt says it's the teenager daughter that watch her mum do her makeup, so instead of a cat eye, it's a 'kitten-eye'. 

Instead of a flat matte as in the 50's, it's more luminous and shimmery with the eyes are swipe with something silverish pink (Naked Lunch by MAC) and an orange red lips (Lady Danger).

So I did the look on my sister and I notice how this look very good with a cream headscarf.

Base:

Mix of Revlon Colourstay in #Toast and Photoready Makeup in #Vanilla and adjust to my sister's skintone. The finish of this mixture will give the right amount of dewyness and shine control.

Conceal under eye darkness and any blemishes with MAC Studio Sculpt in NC30

Set with MAC Blot Powder in Medium Dark.

Eyes:

Sweep MAC Naked Lunch eyeshadow to the lids.

Line the upper lid with MAC Fluidline in Blitz and Glitz (the only one I had)

The eye-liner should quite thick  and not too extended. Then the outer corner slightly flick (very subtle)

Lips:-

Line and fill the lips with orang tone lipliner, MAC Lipliner in Mouth Off and follow by MAC Lipstick in Alibi. I made the lips less red and more orange peachy than the Twinkle one, but it's still matte.

Face colour:-

Soft contour with MAC Minerealize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Dark. This should be more subtle for that younger 'teenage' look, if the contour too apparent it's more mature than it should be.

Blusher on the apple of the cheeks Elianto Studio Blush in Nude Pink.

Dot the liquid hightlighter Tony Moly Crystal Light Pink Beam on the cheekbones and other high planes of face. Set it with MAC Irisdescent Powder in Verve-acious.

I blend it more freely into cheeks and get the hyper-luminous cheeks and dewy complexion which is in contrast with the more matte complexion of the 50's.

If you're oily, keep the dewyness down a bit especially on hot day weather

Black Smokey with gold accent *my sis*

I definitely take the chance to do makeup on sis since I'm home for the summer. I love doing my sis makeup just because I'm used to her face structure and such and probably it's time to branch out more. It's starting to get boring doing natural and subtle makeup on my sis, it's time to smoke it out. So I 'force' her to choose a much more dramatic look and she choose this. 

This  look is from Smashbox video on 'Rock n Roll Glam' (Sheiki Jeans Spring 09). The focus is on the eyes, black opaque eyes smoked into 'cat eye' shape and gold glitter on the inner corner. 

I pretty much follow the video as much as I can and we come up with this.

Steps:-

Mix two foundation, Revlon Colorstay in Toast and Revlon Photoready in Vanilla to get the best shades for the complexion and applied to face with brush.

Brush (from left): Eco Tools Setting Brush from Touch Up Set, Real Techniques Brow Brush from starter set, Elianto Fluffy Eyeshadow brush, MAC #239

From Left: MAC Lipstick in Alibi, Rimmel Vinyl Gloss in Crystal Clear, Barry M Dazzle in Old Gold, MAC Fluidline in Blitz and Glitz, Rimmel Mono Eyeshadow in After Dark, Silkygirl Duo (depot) in Emerald Gold? *not sure*, Elianto Blusher (pan) in Nude Pink

Then, straight to the eyes, apply black gel liner MAC Fluidline in Blitz and Glitz *regular black gel liner would work as well, but I only have this and it's great in a way because it is a shimmery eyes look* densely and thick across the lids and extend into 'cat-eye' shape (almond with flick). Blend up to the crease. I used synthetic small paddle brush *something like a concealer brush* and blend with Elianto fluffy blending brush. Blackened the waterline up to the inner part with small eyeliner brush. Finally top the lids and waterline by dabbing black eyeshadow Rimmel After Dark   and smoke it out more. Remember to preserve the 'cat-eyes' shape. 

After blending the edges the we can go for the gold on the inner corner. I used MAC 239 brush to pack and dab yellow gold eyeshadow from Silky Girl Duo and blend out softly to almost half of the eyes. To pump up the 'glitter effect' I dabbed gold shimmery pigment Barry M Dazzle Dust in Old Gold on top. 

note: I wouldn't wet/damp my brush to use this pigment *like 'foiling'* because it will lose the 'glittery effect' and be more subtle and 'sheen'y. So use dry brush.

I know my camera is crappy didn't manage to get good closeup shot on the eyes :(

Eyes finish! Clean up if there's any mess under the eyes by brushing using the foundation brush. Add concealer for dark circle and start to spot conceal for other blemishes. The Bodyshop Crayon Concealer in 08.

Set the base with MAC Blot Powder in Medium Dark using face brush.

Subtle contouring with MAC Mineralize Natural in Medium Dark using a tapered small face brush and apply Elianto Blush in Nude Pink on the apple of cheeks.

Then for the lips I mixed a clear gloss, Rimmel Vinyl Gloss in Crystal Clear with MAC lipstick Alibi into a quite sheer coral lip gloss and applied to lips with a lip brush. 

That is all. I love this look on her and it's actually work well with off white headscarf. 

Bright Blue Eyes

I remember that I did a post about blue eye shadow from Derek Lam Fall/Winter 2010.

The blue also remind me of bright blue eye tutorial from youtuber, pixiwoo that inspired from Gucci RTW Spring Summer 2009. This look focus just on the eyes, where bright blue is use. Then the eyes are smugded with black liner on both upper and lower lashline.

So after evening the skintone with foundation and concealer, I apply MAC Paint Pot in Painterly up to the brow.

Then for the bright blue eyeshadow, what I see on the tutorial is that the blue used are not just bright but almost like turquoise. Unfortunately I don’t have any eyeshadow that is closer to turquoise. But I would say, MAC To the Beach Eyeshadow in Humid will do. I do love MAC eyeshadow because of the intense colour, however Flashtrack which I own is more deep blue, so I just have to mix and get it closer to the colour (actually hopeless, Flashtrack is too dark... but I still like the final colour).

So what I did is that, first I blend lightly and softly MAC Flashtrack on the upper lid up to the socket and blend it quite high up to the brow and on the inside of the eyes (toward the nose bridge). But keep the space just below brow free of the blue.

Then, I slowly build the colour by blending with all three colour from Za Eyeshadow Trio in E6, from deeper to the white (the white in trio somehow has like green sheen and reflects) and the final colour look more bright.

Why do I still put on MAC Flashtrack eventough it is not the right blue?

It is because I like the intensity, it make the colour from Za trio more strong.

Remember also not to wing out the eyeshadow too far of the outer corner (no flicking).

Then, trace the upper lashline with black liner and blend outward. Again nothing is wing out. Then trace the lower lashline leaving the waterline free.There are absolutely no blue shadows under the eye.

Then I highlight the waterline with Revlon Matte Peach Sorbet and I also blend the light colour on the free space between the blue shadow and the brow. This will make the blue stand out more.

I use the slanted brush and apply black eyeshadow (Rimmel After Dark) on the black liner, upper and lower lashline (leave out the waterline) and blend. Finish the look with black mascara.

Then, a bit of bronzer on the hollow of cheeks and very little of Elianto Blusher in Nude Pink on the apple of the cheeks (the colour is almost invisible).

For the lips, I did the look base on the tutorial where she use a sheer pale pink gloss, but then on the picture of Gucci is more of beige gloss. I prefer the pale pink one, so I just fill my lips with Silkygirl Lipliner in Nude and apply Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Glossy Rose.

It may seem like a typical eyeshadow look but it's not... the attention it gives to the shape of the eyeshadow and the fact that the waterline is left without any black and NO BLUE at all under the eye makes a different. Apart from the beige lips, I absolutely have no problems with this look...

PS : I don't know if you notice the different, but I wear BB cream under all the makeup... I thought I want take a closer look at my BB cream again... I notice it does brighten up my face despite not in skintone... However, since I always be the type to wear very precise full coverage base makeup (thick??)... I feel like it was unnecessary to wear this... unless, I stop wearing my foundation and concealer I might use this (which usually never)... so yeah...

PSS: Well, I would not say I hate BB cream... probably I will post a review about it... I realize I'm not into BB cream, so I will put my BB cream up for sale... I bought it for RM 32 ?? I believe, and I am selling this at RM 17.oo

It started off with an orange lips

Yes, I just had the BSMS interview this evening and it was fine. I couldn't denied there are things that I wish I have said better. All in all, I just glad it was over. I am really hoping that I would get a placement there. Since last week, I had put off to post about this look because I want to focus more for the interview. Now that it is over, finally I can go on with this post.

Lately, I notice in magazine (female, CLEO, Cosmopolitan) there rave about orange lips, some may say coral lips, tomato lips, orange-red lips... whatever it is, it revolve around orange. I do like this colour, very best worn on warm skintone like Asian skintone. The rave about this also remind me of Hyun-ah looks in 4minute’s “Muzik” music video where Hyun-ah this very orange juicy lips...but there are trend with deeper reddish orange like tomato.

Spring Summer 2010

The one with shades from Prada, right is Gianbattista Valli, Bottom is Christian Dior

The orang-red can be perfect and versatile as long as you have this two colour, a real red (red with blue undertone) and orange lipcolour. For me, my mix of orange-red lipcolour using MAC Satin Lipstick in Alibi and Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red. To amp up the orange I use coral-like lipliner. I have test it out on me (and the result is great, I wish I had picture of it) and I just have to try it on my sis. My sis is more interested with brighter orange like Hyun-ah and after the lips I start to devicing this final from anything I have seen before.

(I just play around)

After finding the perfect orange shade for her lips, which she prefer in medium tone, I decide to put more colour as I see the lips is not really overpowering. This is different compare the deeper tomato-red lips or more solid colour (like Prada), the best is to keep the rest of the face bare and the lips itself is a statement.

So I complement the orange-lips with gold-beigey eyeshadow (the gold from L’oreal Star Secret Penelope Cruz Quads) on the upper lids and lower lids. I wouldn’t suggest a more yellow gold (like the gold from Silky Girl duo in Golden Emerald) since it can be too much. Then I define the crease with bronzy brown and blend. For the final touch I gave my gave my sis a full black-rimmed eye.
Okay, I would like to be more specific on the black-rimmed eye. Often women do it will end-up looking too gothich or an Egyptian... but that is not what I intend for. So, with a light hand using black pencil just trace softly along the upper lashline while looking down and into the inner corner. Then look up, start tracing just on the waterline only, and only that. Don’t come out to the lower lashline or it will end up looking over the top. Clean it up and don’t make it too messy. Define the lashline with golden again. Finish it off with black mascara.

So about the complexion, since I put too much attention on both lips and eyes I kept the face flawless and matte. I didn’t use any blusher or highlighter. But just give more colour I just put a hint of bronzer on the hollow of the cheeks and this also gave contour.
My sis really love gloss, so for her sake I top the lips with gloss in coral and this also enhance the orange shade on the lips and give a pretty finish. What I love about this look is that the eyes make lips shade look more sophisticated instead of candy-sweet chic and the attention of the black liner is not too intense to make my sis into a gothic angel.
